Women’s entry into the armed struggle is the inevitable extension of their long contribution to national political campaigns against the genocidal SL state. However, the involvement in Parliamentary politics and non-violent campaigns did not change the cultural images of women. The history of women in combat in the armed struggles is a chronicle of a fundamentally different order. They belong to a totally new world – a world outside a normal woman’s life. And that’s what makes these female fighters so interesting and admirable.
