Globally, Velupillai Prabhakaran, the National Leader of Tamil Eelam, is the symbol for Tamil militancy. He had built up the conventional warfare capabilities of the Tamils and Tamil sovereignty in Tamil Eelam. A decade after the destruction of the LTTE, the Tamil diaspora squabbles over him as a symbol rather than fighting for it.
